A compact holiday house for a family break in an eco-village, with panoramic windows onto the forest and a terrace with an open fireplace and a hot tub.
Client request
To develop the architectural design of a holiday house (type 1) for the eco-village: a compact, welcoming building for family breaks and small groups in the middle of the countryside.
Challenge
For the Type 1 house we had to create an intimate, private space for a family or a small group that would carry the fairy-tale atmosphere of the local folk tales and still feel contemporary. The difficulty was to combine expressive architecture, with its steeply pitched roof, and the comfort of an ordinary holiday, without breaking the unity with the forest around it.
Concept
The architectural concept draws on the historic architecture of the nearby town and on the local heritage of folk tales. Contemporary geometry and natural materials are interwoven with details of Russian and Scandinavian style: contrasting light and dark timbers on the façade, an expressive pitched roof, carved elements. Panoramic windows open views of the forest, and the terrace with its fireplace and hot tub sets up a scenario of complete relaxation in the open air.
Result
The result is a recognisable house with contrasting façades in light and dark timber, an expressive pitched roof and carved details. Panoramic windows fill the interior with light and open views of the forest, while the generous terrace with its open fireplace and hot tub becomes the main place for long evenings and complete relaxation out of doors.

The house is planned for a comfortable stay at a tourist complex: kitchen, dining and living areas share one space that opens onto a large terrace, with a separate bedroom, a bathroom, an entrance lobby with storage and an outdoor seating area. It is compact, practical and easy for guests to live in.

The Type 1 house is an ideal combination of comfort, privacy and a fairy-tale atmosphere for a family break or a small group. Its architectural concept draws on the historic architecture of the nearby town and on the local heritage of folk tales. Contemporary lines and natural materials are interwoven with decorative details of Russian and Scandinavian style, creating a space in which aesthetics, function and closeness to nature come together. Panoramic windows fill the interior with daylight and open views of the forest, and the generous terrace with its open fireplace and the particular feature of this house, a hot tub, will become a favourite place for long evenings and complete relaxation outdoors.
The Type 1 house was designed to work with the woodland landscape around it and to underline the closeness of people and nature. The architecture combines clear geometric lines and flowing forms drawn from the traditions of local folk tales and from modern Scandinavian minimalism. Contrasting façades in light and dark timber, an expressive pitched roof and finely carved elements make the house memorable and welcoming.

What is this holiday house project (type 1), and how big is it?
This is a standard 98 m² house for the eco-village, a compact format for guests of the resort. ARTEVRIKA developed the architecture and the façades as part of the range of standard houses for the whole eco-village, rather than as a one-off individual project.
What is included in a turnkey standard holiday house project?
The basic package covers the architecture and the façades: the massing of the house, the external finishes, the roof, the glazing and the way the building sits in the context of a pine forest. On request we add interior design, design supervision on site and the selection of furnishings; these are not part of the basic architectural package.
Why was eco-minimalism chosen for a 98 m² house rather than something else?
The house stands in a pine forest next to the other houses of the eco-village, and the task was to create a format that does not argue with the forest or with its neighbours. Simple volumes, warm timber and glass instead of decorative excess: that is how the house reads as part of the natural setting of the resort rather than as a cottage standing on its own.
How much does the design of a house of about 100 m² cost for a holiday resort or a glamping site?
We cannot give an exact figure without the details. The design of a single house goes faster than the concept for a whole settlement: the standard 98 m² house took less time than the master plan for the eco-village. We fix the exact programme in the contract after the brief, once the volume of drawings and the sections of the project are clear, whether it is architecture alone or interiors as well.
Can this standard house design be used for another settlement or another location?
Yes. The standard houses here were designed from the start as a repeatable format: a compact 98 m² house that can be built again in another eco-village or holiday resort with a similar landscape. Adapting it to a new location means tying it to the terrain and climate of the particular site, which is discussed separately.
