About the project
A 148 m² apartment with panoramic windows, high ceilings and a view of the waterfront. The interior was designed for a family with three children: a city home where a sense of occasion sits alongside comfort.
Client request
The clients came to us with a clear brief: an urban interior that would work for a large family with three children. The key conditions were functional shared spaces, enough room for each member of the family, and an expressive but uncluttered look. Having already worked together on a country house, we understood each other well; the clients knew exactly what they wanted and could put it into words.
Challenge
To draw out the potential of a 148 m² apartment with these views and adapt it for a family with three children living in the city full time. The sense of occasion created by the high ceilings and panoramic windows had to survive without any loss of comfort or function.
Concept
The concept grew out of the views: panoramic windows, ceiling height and the perspective onto the river and the arboretum set a formal scale. A neutral palette with accent contrasts and the rich textures of natural materials ties all the zones together. Lighting scenarios are provided in every room, from a brisk morning to a quiet evening. Artworks, sculpture and bespoke light fittings place the emphases in the space.
Result
The result is an interior at once formal and comfortable, built around the views of the river and the arboretum. The kitchen and dining area flows into the living room to form a single space for family life. A neutral palette, natural textures and Italian furniture (Modulnova, Cattelan Italia, Bonaldo, Bontempi) compose measured, harmonious arrangements.

01 Zone
Apartment interior design
This is the interior of a 148 m² apartment: large windows, generous ceiling height, views onto the river and the level of amenity the building offers make it both formal and comfortable. The design was developed for a family with three children living in the city full time.
02 Zone
Interior
At the entrance we placed a generous cupboard for coats and shoes. A concealed door set into the composition of Sofia decorative panels leads to the laundry room. The accent of the hall is a new piece: an unusual Cattelan chest of drawers, with striking mirrors above it.
03 Zone
Kitchen-dining room
A striking kitchen and dining area flows into the living room. The design of this space came together from Modulnova, Cattelan Italia, Bonaldo and Bontempi. The paired composition of island and dining table is highly practical. The whole family can gather in this kitchen to cook, talk and dine properly, or take morning coffee with a view of the waterfront and the arboretum.
04 Zone
Living room
The living room continues the single space of the kitchen and dining area and opens towards the panoramic windows. The neutral palette is built on warm beige tones with deep marsala accents in the rug and cushions. A soft grey sofa, a round coffee table with a gloss top and a sculptural pendant of linked rings give the space a calm but expressive rhythm.
05 Zone
Master bedroom
The master bedroom abounds in rich textures, natural materials and considered prints. Neutral tones, skilfully distributed volumes, carefully considered contrasts and accent lighting compose harmonious arrangements. A subtle departure from the pure contemporary style of the main spaces reflects the client's preference.
06 Zone
Master bathroom
The bathroom is a contrasting space, in character with the master bedroom itself: a formal mood, glossy finishes and decorative accents. What matters most is that every routine has been thought through and everything has its place. As throughout the apartment, there are several lighting scenarios, from a brisk morning to an evening spa.
07 Zone
Children's room
A girls' room with notes of romance and a bedroom with art deco elements make these spaces distinct and individual. The composition here centres on a strikingly fashionable rug and brass pendants. Our task was to position the beds so that they stayed out of sight, which produced a bunk bed behind a decorative slatted screen.
08 Zone
Children's bathroom
The bathroom keeps to a warm palette of veined beige marble. Bands of golden mosaic frame the mirror and the vanity top and underline the formal character of the space. Paired basins and a sculptural light in the form of crumpled fabric add depth and soft light.

What is included in a contemporary apartment design project?
A measured survey drawing, the layout, drawings for every zone, visualisations and specifications for furniture and finishes. In this apartment the two bathrooms, one off the master bedroom and one off the children's room, were designed separately, each with its own set of fittings for a different way of using it.

Yes, and that is exactly what we did in this 148 m² project: a contemporary style gives a calm base in the living room and the kitchen and dining area, while the children's room can take bolder colour without breaking the logic of the apartment. Is design supervision necessary for renovating an apartment with two bathrooms?
We recommend it. Two bathrooms mean two places where the work can easily drift from the drawings for water and drainage. Design supervision on this apartment makes sure the contractors lay the tiles and set the fittings exactly as agreed in the project, rather than as they see fit.
