Design project for a private house, 300 m²

The generous, light-filled entrance hall gives the first impression of the house and sets a tone of refinement and comfort. The marble floor with its natural figure sits elegantly against contemporary timber panelling, and a striking crystal chandelier adds a note of opulence. A large geometric mirror opens the space out, reflecting the soft light that pours through the big windows and binding the interior to the landscape outside. The hall holds an exact balance between minimalism and fine detail.

The living room is the heart of the house, and every detail here works towards warmth. The combination of textures and colours, from the soft cream of the furniture to the natural stone on the walls, keeps the space balanced. The broad ceiling fittings hold the eye and also give a soft, diffused light that shows the interior at its best. Minimal but expressive decorative pieces add a note of elegance and make this the right room for resting and for talking with family and friends.

From the living room we come straight into the kitchen-dining area, where the dining group with its light fitting is the centre of the composition. This is a space where function meets looks. The marble dining table with its unusual figure and gold details gives a sense of opulence, and the light fittings, which seem to have been taken from nature, add movement and lightness. Minimal furniture shapes and restrained shades sit well with the warm textures of the timber and make family dinners and evenings with friends comfortable. Every detail here has been thought through, and the room invites you to take your time.

This kitchen is contemporary Art Deco at its most liveable, with every detail worked out for comfort and function. The spare handleless fronts are in warm timber shades, which makes the room settled and easy. The worktops are of a hard-wearing material that goes well with the natural textures. Pendant fittings add refinement and give a soft light that suits any hour. The central island with bar stools serves as extra worktop and as a place for a quick bite. The kitchen feels open and light, and sits naturally within the style of the house.

The formal double-height hall greets you with a cascade of slender pendants and a crystal chandelier along the staircase. Vertical lines of light bring out the height of the space, and a console of natural stone on brass supports sets the tone of restrained opulence for the whole house.

The master bedroom in this project is elegant and comfortable in equal measure. The centre of it is the bed with its soft headboard and fine detailing, and the light fittings around it give a gentle glow. Gilded accents on the walls and in the decoration add depth and refinement. A further corner for rest, with a comfortable armchair, invites you to sit alone for a while, and careful zoning makes good use of the space. Light fittings that read almost as sculpture, and natural textures, complete a room made for rest and recovery.

The lounge off the master bedroom is done in warm tones and makes a comfortable place to read and to rest, in keeping with the bedroom zone as a whole. At its centre is a soft rug with a geometric pattern that draws the areas together, and pale furniture and textiles add lightness. A comfortable armchair, minimal side tables and open lit shelving make the setting useful as well as handsome, and a mirror and a fine light fitting draw attention to the architectural forms. Live plants finish the picture and bring freshness to the room.

The master bathroom is contemporary and elegant, with the emphasis on natural materials and a fine range of colour. The main element of the design is a marble wall with a strong figure, which gives the room its visual accent and brings out the refinement of the interior. At the centre stands a freestanding oval bath, minimal and comfortable at once. Gold accents in the sanitaryware and the accessories give the space a rich but unobtrusive charm. A striking chandelier with crystals and concealed lighting give a soft light that completes the atmosphere of calm.

The guest room is contemporary and functional. It holds a sitting area, with a comfortable beige corner sofa on a round grey rug, alongside a workspace with a timber desk and a white chair. The parquet, a deep mouse-grey laid in an intricate geometry, gives the eye something to hold, and a neutral palette with gilded accents adds refinement. Large windows with light curtains fill the room with daylight, and textured walls and well-placed decorative pieces, a house plant among them, complete a comfortable room that does more than one job.

The contemporary shower room is restrained and uses fine materials such as marble and glass. The interior is in pale tones with delicate gold accents that bring out the elegance of the space. A large panoramic window fills the room with daylight and gives it lightness. A fitted mirror with a relief texture and matt surfaces add depth, and spare sanitaryware with soft lines completes a room that is functional and good to look at.

The walk-in wardrobe is in pale neutral tones, with the emphasis on function and ergonomics. The main space is divided into sections for clothes, shoes and accessories, which makes it easy to keep in order. Light metal structures give the interior a visual lightness, and a partition of fluted glass between the wardrobe and the shower room was added to bring in daylight and to link the two zones. The room keeps its privacy and still fills with a soft diffused light, which makes it a comfortable place to be. Gentle lighting inside the sections shows the finishes off and makes the wardrobe usable at any hour.

The upper storey is a comfortable, light-filled space made with natural materials and textures. Walls and ceiling are lined in timber panels in a warm shade, which opens the room out visually and makes it welcoming. The space is divided by vertical timber battens that separate the stairwell from the sitting area. Large dormer windows give plenty of daylight, and concealed lighting brings out the geometry of the room. At the centre is a comfortable sofa opposite the television area, and a dining corner with a compact tea table completes the interior. The upper storey reflects the owners' love of making things: it is a place to rest, watch films, draw, or spend easy time with guests.

The bathroom on the upper storey is planned around the geometry of the pitched roof, which lets every metre be used. The walls combine textured tiles with smooth elements for a strong contrast. An elegant basin on a slender metal stand and light fittings with a soft diffused light bring out the airiness of the interior. The design is worked out in detail to keep function and looks in balance within a confined space.
